Lowering a 1986 K10

I know this sounds weird (especially living in Montana) but I would really like to lower my 86 K10 step side.  I can only find parts for lowering the c10.  Is there anywhere to buy or modify a k10 to lower it roughly 4"?

Does your K-10 still have the stock suspension?

If it has a lift kit, then you just need to swap springs (shocks and maybe steering arms).

Jason,  everything on the truck is stock.  It looks pretty tall but I am 100% certain its all stock.

I'm reading some worrisome stuff that I might be better off replacing the frame?

Unfortunately I don't have the bolt on answer for you....but when I'm going through the '74 repair manual for my '75 c10, I've noticed that the Cs and Ks are often grouped together ("C/K"). It may be worth doing a little research on the Technical forum. Check out your year's rear suspension and the difference(s), if any, between the c and k.....it may only be spring rate or size....in which case a flip kit for a c is likely to work.

Also....not sure of your intended end use. But going to a C leaf spring alone might lower your K....though probably not the full 4" you're looking for.

Can you post a photo of your truck? Are you wanting to lower the truck and keep it 4wd?

Maybe you could go to an under axle leaf spring to go lower (like Jeep CJ's and J-series trucks).  However for the front axle, if you keep it 4wd, will likely be the most difficult part to adapt... I'm thinking the differential housing on the passenger side will get in the way.  Then there will be the driveshafts, such as overall length and interference with frame members. 

If you're not going to keep it 4wd, then take a look at Capt Kaos posts on his 'late model' K-5 Blazer build.   He converted from 4wd to 2wd with it, however I can't seem to find the link right now...  Otherwise, you probably are better off swapping to a C-10 frame and using 'off the shelf' 2wd lowering parts.

EDIT:  I just looked at a photo of your K-10... however, would you post some additional photos?  If it is indeed completely stock, I'd look for a different truck to lower (i.e., a C-10), just my $0.02.

I just ran across this, but you cannot lower a 4x4 less than factory height.
