I would not recommend a beginner to completely strip a truck. Unless it has been painted more than one or the last job was hacked or of poor quality materials. If it is the original paint I would stick with repairing any damage and blending those areas into the paint with high build urethane primer. Feather sand any scratches and hit them with primer as well. Sand the rest of the paint and primed areas with 320 or 400 so the new paint will stick. You will do your self a few big favors by (1) buying a good book on body and paint how to info and maybe making Friends with a pro that is willing to share some knowledge. (2) You don't have to buy the most expensive materials on the shelf. Middle of the road prices are usually decent quality materials, shop around a bit. Don't use cheap masking tape and don't leave it on overnight ( even the good stuff ) if you are working out side. 3M tape is what you want. Any moister and then sunlight will make it almost impossible to remove. Good luck, and feel free to ask about different brands and tech. questions.
