I just bought the truck for $600. It sat for a couple years wen i got it but started up after some new gas and a little love, it wont idle on its own but once i get going it has no issues. It stopped shifting up yesterday after i tested the 4x4. It drove just fine for the 250 mile trip back from where i bought it, and now it wont shift up ( park, reverse, neutral work but it wont get out of first) i tried the reset button and it worked unril i came to a red light and wouldnt shift anymore. Any help on either issues would be greatly appreciated.

Check fluid in tranny, if it's dark you may have burnt up the clutch pack. Normally due from misadjusted tv cable

I would check for intake leaks, then double check idle speed, too low will cause it to die coming to stops...or is this only when cold?

Check your TV cable by pulling it by hand in park several times, it may be stuck.  Also pull the governor out and make sure the valve inside moves freely.

I would check for vacuum leaks. Start the truck and open the hood. Listen for a hissing sound. More than likely a vacuum line from the transmission to the intake manifold is leaking. Fix that and you will fix the idle and shift problem.

what reset button? but the tbi can leak around the base plate, is your check engine light on?
does it come on when you first turn the key on?

That's what I was wondering? What reset button?! I've never heard of such a thing! Unless he's thinking of a fuel pump shut off switch like on a Ferd? I wish it was as simple to fix as hitting some reset button! Lol!
