203 not going in high locks please help

i got a 1979 chevy k10 350,350turbo,np203. the 203 want go in to and high  or low locks.
and if i get luckey to get it to go in it pops back out. it would be real nice to have 4x4 when in 5 inches of snow with bald tires this is my first 4x4. im 16

I would first suspect linkage adjustment.
