OK my turn signals went out
... like out out...... when i try to turn them on i get nothing (like the lights wont turn on and stay on like with a bad bulb or shot relay, it does it left or right!!!) i already checked the fuse and replaced the flasher relay. its on a 84ish gmc short box serria classic any ideas???

Sounds like the switch to me, too. Anything happen leading up to this? Pothole, or recent work, or something? Just trying to rule out other issues. If you have a spare switch, it might be easier to just throw it in and see if it fixes your problem, if you have to buy one, though, I would spend a few minutes on diagnosis. I hate to buy stuff I don't really need.

i was trying to fix my back up lamps cuz they were not hooked up to the hurst rachet shifter. and they accidently touched the floor and arced and blew the fuse so i replaced it and there is still nothing... and it is a a/t tranny (700r4) and by swicth do you mean the column one or what is there a way to check it???

yes i mean the column. there is a way to check it but you will need to check wiring diagrams to see which wires to jump. you could jump them at the base of the column, where the turn signal switch connects. you will need a jumper wire and a wiring diagram. i will try to do some research tomorrow and post which ones to jumper, this will tell you if the switch is bad.

Just thought of something... There may be two relays on your year model. One for the turn signals, which you say you replaced, and one for the emergency flashers. Same part number. Try that one, it is located at the top of the fuse block. It is hard to believe that grounding the circuit would blow the switch, the fuse sacrificed itself to protect that. The relays, however, are downstream of the fuse and may have been damaged.
