Broken Speedometer needle
« on: March 31, 2009, 07:43:04 pm »
Does anyone know if it's possible to replace the speedo needle? Does it just pop off or is there a process? My 81's needle has been broken for about 6 months now and figured I should look into fixing it soon. Thanks

Does that mean that the needle doesn't come off?

Ok, great. So someones done this before. I went to the junkyard Monday and looked around for a guage cluster that someones already tore into. I got two needles off of two different trucks. I used a flathead(not slotted) and pried them carefully off. Both of them more or less snapped at the center pin that the needle connects to. What did I do wrong? Was I supposed to looden the two screws on both side of the needle? I want to make sure I have a better idea before I pop mine off. Thanks

If you can get the whole gauge, go that route. I have used the tool that golfers use to pull their tees out of the ground. I dont know what its called. A tee puller???

Golfers need a Tee puller to pull 2 inches of wood out of the earth? Figured once the club hits the ball the Tee would either fly out or be made loose by the force lol

Never done this but would think if there is screws in the needle to back them out a bit

use a fuse puller or maybe a chip removal tool (Radio Shack should sell em)

My thoughts exactly. Im not a golfer, I have seen the tool, and it may have other uses as well. I dont know. The thought of chasing a little white ball over 40 plus acres of land trying to put it in a coffee cup just doesnt interest me. The golf cart is fun tho, just dont mrss with the throttle control linkage. ( Theyhave them set to go slow for a reason and get upset when you make them go faster. ;D (I was told "Its a golf course, not a dragstrip")
