Taillight/Park light Help
« on: March 29, 2009, 07:10:55 pm »
I have a '79 K-20.  The taillights/parklights  (not brake light) will not go off.  I took out the light switch and unplugged the lights-they stayed on. I pulled every fuse in fuse block one at a time and they never went off. I unplugged the rear light wiring harness and the back lights went off but the park lights stayed on.  I am out of ideas and would appreciate any help.  Thanks >:(

If its stock wiring there is no way the light should stay on when the harness is unplugged behind the bumper. Sounds like you have had a hack pro under there before you. Pull the whole tail light harness out of the rear bed, and git rid of the hacker wiring. Then start over from there. I would trace the whole harness all the way to the fire wall too.

I must have a short in the front some where. The wiring is actually still pretty stock.  I just can't figure where the power is coming from.

so in order to turn the lights on you must pull the headlight switch but if you unplug it they remain on?

Tail lights and front park lights are on all the time.  I unplugged the light switch under dash and they stay on.  I unplugged the wiring harness by the back bumper and the taillights went off but park lights stay on.  It has to be a short in the front somewhere?  I can't figure where the power is coming from.

I would start by looking around the battery tray.  If it has a trailer brake control that is another place to check.

Take a little hammer and smash the little light bulbs.  That'll teach them!
