Truck Covers
« on: November 11, 2009, 03:49:52 pm »
I'm wondering what you guys think is the best truck cover.

I'm not driving the truck right now, and will be storing it outside all the time.

I'd like a good cover that costs under $200 and will take the elements without skinning up my paint.

I'm just starting to search so I have no idea whats out there.

Thanks for the help guys!

Hee hee, Joe, that's what I was thinking.  Or even one of those fancy ones with walls on them. ;D

With my wifes' '87 iroc we used to park it on plywood with poly under it (lot of moisture/condensation from the ground), then a soft cover with poly over that. Did that for about 5 years, then it got put in a barn. (The winter snow helped hold down the poly, not sure how it would work in GA)

Anybody with spare space to store it? Or how about a self storage place?  With the amount of work tied up in your truck, I don't know if I'd take the chance with outside storage.

I got the "Evolution Block-it" fabric. Good for in or outdoors. I don't remember the website off-hand but I got one for my 1967 for $220 shipped. I just found what I wanted then searched on-line for the best price with free shipping. It's not cheap but I can tell you it's the best money I've spent. It's a world of difference over the $100 - $150 covers and they fit perfectly. The old adage applies... "you get what you pay for". If you plan on selling the truck, I think it adds a nice detail for the buyer.

I just sent in a resume for a very promising job offer, so maybe I'll be driving it again.  I've just been lately driving the focus since it costs less.  So it's been sitting in grandad's garage for the last 4 months, but now that garage space isn't available anymore.
If I can't get a decent job soon, I'll have to get a cover to store it, since it won't fit in our garage (too long).  But if this job goes through, I'll just drive it like I want to.  Even if I can get a crappy job, I'll be able to pop for a good quality cover, but I can't do much more than $150-200(maybe) right now.  I also do not want a cheap cover that will screw up my paint, so i know the dangers there.  It just sucks all around right now, but Something will come up.

It sucks, but I may just have to keep it out and wax it a lot.  I hate waxing em up when they just sit there, but oh well....  We had one of those little single vehicle carports, but we put it out in the back for the tractor, and either way it's getting to where it needs a new tarp on it.

Cross your fingers for me I get this job.  if I do all my problems will be solved. (well not all of em, but enough of em...ha)

Ahh forget the cover, I'll just drive it...  went and got my tag and insurance on this morning, drove it all day today.  Guess I'll just use it and let the focus sit.  It needs paint anyway.  ha!  Besides the tags insurance and bottles of cleaner and wax are still cheaper than the cover i'd like to get...

We get the ton of snow every year, and we used a cover on one, but it cost us $700. The next winter we bought a carport... for a little more but it rocked the cover, no comparison. Last year we sold the cover and added another carport, well actually bought a new one with spots for to of our beauty trucks. Go with the carport, you'll love yourself for that a few years down the road. We've had good luck and great service with Coast to Coast, just had to plug them but they really did help us out. The covers are a great short term solution that we did for a few years, but they're not close to how happy we are with the http://www.getcarports.com carports we've got from Coast to Coast.

Hope that helps, just my two cents :) Good luck!
