OK I've all ready told how i broke my 44 and i think i was told before that with the 38's the 44 will not hold up well this is the second axle shaft i broke so think its time to step it up. now my question is will this fit

its off a dodge i don't think the springs are in the same place so how does that work when the perch is in the housing?

All newer Dodge 60's are driver-side drop.  You cannot interchange them, unless this is an older passenger-side drop axle (Pre-1996, I think... Not sure about this.).

And, yes, the springs mounts will have to be cut off and new ones welded on. It can be done but is a PITA. Why not find a GM D60?

If it is a front and rear dodge dana 60, it will be the proper passenger side drop. Also you cannot just cut off the front perches considering one side is built into the pumpkin.

The dodge perches are only 1/2" total width difference. So 1/4" on each side, which you can pry your spring over. (been done many times) If you go with aftermarket chev springs, they are 2 1/2" wide verses the 3" factory. By offsetting the spring bushings, you will line up just right.

Many people have put the dodge axle in the chev, it is a cheap alternative. It is also kingpin up until 93, from there they went to balljoint. Also in 94, they went to cad (central axle disconnect) which you can get rid of, but costs a few more dollars.

Also the dodge gearing should come factory with either 3.07's or 3.54's depending which model year they are.

I will be using running gear from a 93 dodge w250 which is a dana 60/70 combo. So yes it can and has been done.

Unless it was a special order from the factory, yes it will have aftermarket gears. It is the same carrier though as the split s 4.10 down and 4.56 up.

Width is the only difference I do believe the dodge is 2.5" wide and the chev is 3". Google the "dana 60 bible" by billavista, it can give you more information than I ever could. Very informative.

for a fast fix till i can talk the wife into the Dana 60 lol. i found a shaft for my 44 or at least i think so but its saying 73-80 found another from 69-72 now is 80 the last year for the 44?

I was thinkin 76 was the last year for the dana 44,then GM switched to the 10 bolt front. I swapped out the 1/2 ton dana 44 for a dana 44hd.Upgraded to Superior shafts and CTM joints.I'm going to be running 36's so i wanted a little insurance.
I ditched my 12 bolt rear for a 60...i should have gottin a 14 bolt but i got 3 dana 60s for a bargin...
