Help Me Track Down Source of Interior Water Leak
« on: March 09, 2009, 08:34:08 pm »
I removed the wet carpet and dried everything out. The pinch seem along the outer edge of floor pans (both sides) are wet again after snow and rain. Where do these water leaks commonly come from - the windshield gasket? the duct system? the door opening weather seal? Everywhere else looks dry.

what year is your truck? 81 up water leaks in through the hood hinge into the kick panel commonly. Have someone hose it down while you look with a flash light.

do you have to drive it for it to get wet or was it sitting ? or both

I have driven in the rain yet. The current leak happens while sitting.

what Vile said.  Spray the heck out of the windshield/cowl area with a water hose.  Then go in under you glove compartment area and look around.  I bet it is a failed windshield seal  :o

Trukk, The windshield to the gasket-gasket to the body, either one I've found to be common. Pull the dash pad & look in the corners. Take a flashlight & look up behind the dash for a stripe where the water has run down, also get a friend to spray with a garden hose while you watch. Your mention of the fresh air duct & those screws is something I've seen a time or Two. I have also seen several back window gasket-to body leak right in the lower corners...the water runs down the seat hump & fills up the channel. Check it out & let us know what you find so we all can learn, Lorne

There are a few things that cause them to leak.  The weep hole in the channel is plugged or the firewall to cowl area is rusted.  Look in the cowl first and clean it out then run some water in it and look inside.  I would remove the carpet for this experiment.

Thanks guys. This is helpful, and I'll check these areas tomorrow.

If it turns out to be the gasket, is there any way to re-seal it in place or does the windshield have to come out?
