Couple recessed wiper questions
« on: October 29, 2010, 03:25:13 pm »
1. Does anyone have a picture of a truck/s with recessed wipers?

2. What is the best way to go about doing this?

A lot of newer cars have wipers that you can't really see until they are on, and on those cars it actually looks pretty good. I read somewhere on this site about someone doing it, but I don't think they ever actually did it. Thought I would look into it since now I have some extra time on my hands to do the project.

I wouldn't say it's impossible, however I don't see how it could really be done. There would be some real work involved & the outcome would still be odd looking I'd think...you would need some amount of gap like the '73-'80's behind the hood.
The rubber set windshield doesn't lend itself to the idea...you would have to eliminate it, at least on the bottom. Unless the windshield dips around the wiper posts (like say most '90's & up cars) you have to use a stainless trim strip on the bottom like the earlier ('60's to '80's?) cars did so the wipers could slide up & over the bottom.
WAY to much work in my opinion! Lorne

How about just making them seat properly, at the very bottom of the trim? Mine are way off. But when they are on the downswing, (when I have them on) the tips actually touch the top of the windshield rubber seal. So it looks like if I tried to adjust them any, it would totally throw things off and I would have them trying to get the water off of the rubber seal that the metal that is below that. So how do you make them seat properly? Bend up the arms some?
