1980 Air Dam
« on: December 06, 2010, 01:19:18 pm »
Does anybody have any pics of how an '80 model Front Air Dam, under and behind the bumper, is attatched?  I think I'm going to make one out of aluminum and I'd like some Ideas on the best way to attatch it and the best mounting position.  Also any ideas on how tall it should be?

Does it attatch to the bumper?  it appears to hang down from the core support to me....

I know they make a difference on the 81-87 trucks, because when I took it off of my 87 I lost some mileage.  I'm hoping this may give me a little bit of help.  All it'll cost is the sheet of aluminum so it's worth a try anyway.

Here's the dam I'm talking about.  I don't want to try to use the 81-87 dam, it doesnt look right on the older trucks.

I just put mine back on my 1980 today while I was doing the tires. Mine attaches to the frame right in front of the 2 front leaf springs with 2 bolts and then 2 bolts on each outter side that attaches to the rad support I think. Mines only on the 2 inner bolts because of the body Lift though haha the other 2 wont reach  ;) . I can take some pics if you really need them and get dimensions, let me know.

I may need some pics later.  I got this idea from an old hotrod magazine I have where they did this exact mod on a 78 or 79 C10.  I wanna copy what they did, but I can't find the dang book now.   >:(  They mad an air dam out of a sheet of aluminum, similar to the picture at the top, and they hung it off of the radiator support.  they made lots of notches and stuff to clear this and that by the rad support.  but when they were done it looked good.  oh and they painted it flat black.

Alright let me know and il get some pics. Sounds like a good project it would look pretty cool and probebly be more durable then the plastic stock ones. but not sure about the c10 set up, mines k10 so it has the leaf springs there like I said, but I dont think it would be too different
