stupid people and waterpumps

It seems the previous owner thought it was a good idea to jb weld the weep hole when the pump went out. Absolute idiot. 30$ and an hour later and I had replaced my old water pump. Cleaned some engine gunk and repainted the brackets.

Also I don't know if you recall me complaining about not having a timing marker...but I found it...bent up against the timing chain cover and covered in a few mm of dirt and grease.

yeah but i dont get it...because its really not visible unless you have the water pump off... which... should always be on the block right? haha.

You have to look straight down between the water pump and the front of the block. And, the timing tab should be at a 90 coming off the timing cover.

I wonder if the previous owner bent the timing tab out of his way, so that he could lay underneath the truck and plug the water pump's weep hole with epoxy. I bet he even spent the extra money and used water-proof epoxy. In fact, I'm going to bet that he had no idea what a weep hole is, and he couldn't get the water pump bolts any tighter... lord knows he kept trying though...and that water pump he put on it five years ago "had a lifetime warranty, so it's NEVER gonna go bad!" (Don't forget, some people actually think that!) So, after running a bunch of stop-leak through the cooling system, this was his last, best idea to fix that leak. Then he sold the truck, because it was "giving him too many problems".
