vacuum lines
« on: March 20, 2012, 12:04:35 am »
i have a 87 4x4 with a 305 tbi i just rebuild the motor and took off the egr crap. when I started it for the first time it has a hard time ideling. the check engine light comes on when at low rpm but when you rev it the check engine light goes off. if any one has picture of how the vacuum lines are routed before the egr is taken off it would help also.

The check engine light more than likely has to do with a vacuum line that is not plugged or not there when it needs to be, when you bring your rev's up it goes off idle and therefor can cancel the erratic idle.
Do you have the ECV sticker under your hood on the cowl still ?  It will have the diagram if you can read it, other wise there are a couple of members who have access to those kind of things, you will have to wait until they see your post though.

Did you search the site?  http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/smforum/index.php/topic,19022

What were you hoping to gain by removing the EGR?  It does provide some benefits and if it was stock you probably didn't gain anything on a TBI motor.  To remove it you will need a chip burned for the vehicle.

What codes are you getting?

Well I figured it out I just had a vacuum line in the wrong spot, and my IAC valve was stuck. i fixed both of those and the truck runs like a champ. I didnt need to burn a chip to get the light to off. if anyone wants to see pictures let me know ill post them. thanks for the help and advice.

Funny thing that those vacuum lines have to be in the right spots.  Glad to hear you got figured out and it is running better now.
