Ha from Las Vegas
« on: October 25, 2012, 10:51:16 pm »
Just joined the site. My name is Doug I just retiered this year. I've been a mechanic 40+ years, and a diesel tec for the last 30. I had all 17 ASE in the 80s when there only 17, and  a GM master tec for 2 years when it was a 400 questions and covered all GM makes. With that an $2.75 I mite be able to get a cup of coffee. So these days I'm riding my Goldwing restoring my sisters wing. An getting back 85 Chevy dually I bought 91 it had a 6.2 diesel, turbo 400, and 4.56 gears. The 2nd year I installed a built 700R4 that worked good behind the 6.2. Unfortunately someone had been into the engine that didn't know what they were doing or didn't care, and lost the engine in 95. So I decided to install a Cummins. I changed the gears to 3.55. I ran the 700R4 behind it for a while but it just wouldn't hold up to the Cummins. Even tough I had built it to take 420ft# of torque but just not at 1600 RPMs. I could power through 4th gear with out any problem at all. I babied it for about three years. And then built a 97 4L80e, and use a TCI computer to run it. It works great for it. It was a little bit of a problem at first because it was set up for a hot rod gas engine it wouldn't even shift till you hit 3000RPMs I got it reprogammed  with my lap top. Have A Geat Day Doug

Hello Doug.  Welcome from Central California.
Rich
It's difficult to know just how much you don't know until you know it.
In other words... if people learn by making mistakes, by now I should know just about everything!!!
