85 k10 with 96 vortec.
« on: November 11, 2015, 09:27:52 pm »
Hey guys I did the 96 vortec swap thanks to a few guys on here giving me the info back in Feb. Well I have ran into a few issues of it running good.
The problem: will run good for 1-3 mins then just cut off.

What I have: 5.7 vortec out of a 96. A 600 cfm eddlbrock  only 4 months old. The electric choke is in the middle dial and the air and fuel screws are backed out 2.5 turns. Idk what rpms I'm at
Universals carb fuel pump from Napa and a Mr.gasket fuel regulator running 5.5 psi (according to eddlebrock this is what carb needs). New plug wires and distributor cap.

I don't know if it is relevant but the truck did run but it would diseal when I cut it off with these plugs r44ltsm ac delco.
After finding out advance website said the plugs don't go to my truck I corrected it and installed the r44lts6. From what I seen the difference is the heat range. Maybe plug gap I didn't check either plugs gap.

Ok I have the distributor in and the rotor is facing #1 plug it is on the correct stroke I had brother in law help me make sure it is on the correct stroke.

I was using a harbor freight timing gun and brother in law said he couldn't see the line on the dial or he let me borrow his gun to see if my gun is bad. I ran out of daylight so I will have to do that tomorrow but still I would think with it sounding as good as it does it should still run longer than 2 mins.

Also when I put in drive /reverse the rpms drop dramastically it feels where I had to keep foot on gas to keep rpms up.
Any help would be appreciated please and Thank You this is driving me insane lol

Could the ignition control module in the distributor be bad? If so is it the thing built to top of cap or is it under the rotor button?

Entire 96 motor minus the intake and fuel injection as I just made it a carburated motor.

What distributor are you using?  Does it have the correct hardened gear for the roller cam that the vortex uses?.  I don't think this would cause it to stall out, but its something that you may want to look into.
