4l80e swap questions
« on: June 21, 2015, 05:56:06 pm »
Okay so I have a 74 c10 doing an lt1 swap. Right now a th350 is bolted to the lt1 and will be used until I buy the Trans and such. But I was wondering if a 4l80e would bolt to the lt1? If so is there anything I need to do to get it in the truck?

First off: Welcome to the site! The 4L80 that would come behind a L31 350 (heavier vans, trucks, ect.) will have the bell housing you need. Along with the normal stuff... the torque converter, dipstick tube, ect. You will have to move the crossmember back/modify the mount, ect. You will need a different trans yoke/driveshaft, trans. cooler tubes & a controller to operate it. Some way to make the speedometer work also.

You may want to spend some time doing a Google search for: "4L80 swaps" the basics will be the same. Doesn't matter if its in a Chevelle, Camaro or a truck. Hope this Helps, Lorne

Also what would be the best posi to put in with minimal fab. I want actual posi to. None of that other stuff I be reading about that only engages at a certain rpm.

You will need a computer to control the trans unless you go with a manual valve body.
As Lorne mentioned, you also have to deal with the speedometer issues.
Both of these are easily to do, it just takes $$.

Not all 4L80s are the same. The bell depth is slightly different for the LS series engine. The 4L80 built for the LS series will work on your LT1 but you will need a spacer because the flywheel depth is different.
