Engine and trans replace

I have a 84 c10 stepside with a 350 and th350 carbed. I wanting to swap them with the chevy performace 350/290 nothing fancy and a tci street rodder th350. The years that is specified on the engine says pre 76 and trans says pre 79. Is there a differance or they the same because I thought they were. Thanks.
