Vent window assembly on 82 c10
« on: September 21, 2015, 10:46:59 PM »
I have a 1982 chevy c-10 Scottsdale.  This is also my first post and im not sure if this is the right section. I broke my drivers side vent window ironically after I "broke into" my own truck on my graduation night. (Locked my keys inside then after I got them accidentally tapped the window with a plastic bead on the flashlights string) anyway I had another 82 that was my parts truck when building my truck that I'm 99% sure was mostly stock. So I thought I would swap them  so I pulled the glass and was going to reseal it in the window channel and it doesn't fit. The one that was broken has more of a curve towards the bed at the the top and may bde slightly shorter. and my spare went up straighter and then curved. I went to the junkyard and the only good one that will fit is in a 1 ton truck that they won't part out because it's "a good truck" although the Windows haven't been rolled up in years. I have a classic parts of america catalogue and it says there's 3 different styles between 73-87 one is 73-79 one is 80 and the other is 81-87. So obviously the whole assembly has been swapped before I got the truck. Does anyone know which window it's curved is more than the others. Because I don't want to swap both assemblies or order one that May not fit. Thank you and any help is appreciated.

Thank you so much. Now I know what to order since my local junkyard won't sell the one I need. I Was going to go back and check the year of that truck to attempt to find out.

I finally found a vent window at a junkyard but it's only the glass, I know I will need a new handle for it, but what's the best way to install the glass into the frame and keep it in there. I would like to be able to open it so I don't really want to use rtv silicone but if it's the only option I will. Thanks.

are you talking about reinstalling the glass into the metal frame.  It was originally compressed in with a gasket.
I dont know of a place to get that...

I have put them in with windsheild urethane before in place of that gasket.
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

You can get the rubber gaskets at another company for about 12 bucks or so but have fun trying to get the glass back in using them. They are a little less than an 1/8 inch thick so multiply than times 2 and you're adding near a quarter inch to the thickness of the glass. The originals were alot thinner......I'd go the silicon route also

Thanks guys. My power steering pump went out and I haven't been able to get the truck out any. When I get a pump I'm going to stop by the local auto glass shop and see what they charge. If it's cheap I'll let them deal with trying to stuff the glass back in the frame. It'll be the only thing (besides an alignment) I didn't do myself but I don't mind. Haha.
