Fuel system upgrade to EFI questions

I am getting ready to drop in an aftermarket EFI setup '78 K10 Stepside so I am looking into my options for fuel delivery. I have seen options for external pumps and a underhood reservoir setup, but I keep hearing that the best is an in tank pump. I have dual tanks but I plan on just using the driver side tank, at least for now.

I have been looking into what it would take to get the in tank pump going and I have found that the '87 tanks are the dimensions exernally, however they have different part numbers, so there must be some difference. Baffles I am assuming. Can anyone confirm that or let me know what the difference is?

I am looking at getting a sender unit for an 87 and a high pressure pump. Will the sender work with my current fuel gauge?

I know I will need to replace all the fuel lines to the EFI and back. Any idea of how many feet I will need?

Anything you think i might have overlooked?

Welcome to the forum..

The 87 tank is the same except it is baffled.

The sender will work with your current fuel gauge.

I used all the original steel lines for my TPI setup. Replaced any rubber lines with fuel injection rated line.

I went the cheapo route at the time and used an inline pump with my original tank. It's been about 5 years now with no problems. I even get below 1/4 tank occasionally with no starvation.

If you use the in tank pump, get the AC Delco EP 381 from 96 and newer trucks. The original EP 386 will struggle if you start adding mods. tbichips.com has some really good info on EFI.
