Best lowering option.
« on: November 02, 2016, 05:05:12 pm »
I disassembled the front suspension of my truck today just to find out that my coils are not lowering ones.....they have been cut.

The total drop on the front was 4.5" and I like that amount of drop so now the question I pose to all of you is this: How do I get a 4.5" drop in the front CORRECTLY?

I've never been a fan of cut springs as the make the front float around going down the road......which this truck does.

Does anyone make a 4.5" drop coil spring or would I have to use a combination of a drop coil and a drop spindle? I will be putting a big brake kit up front from Wilwood but I am waiting to hear back from them as to whether or not they sell a kit for use with a stock spindle. I would love to keep the stock spindles but if I can't get 4.5" lowering coils I'm afraid I will have to go the drop spindle route.

Also what brands do I stick with? I see that Belltech, CPP and  McGaughys all sell lowering kits.

Any of the name brand kits will work. I would go with 2.5 spindles in front, so the factory wheels wont rub. Also no more than a 2" dropped springs as any lower and they will ride like crap. Use a good shock in front as well, so you get that true straight ride. Good luck

I ended up going with 2.5" CPP spindles and Western Chassis 2" coils. I also run 20" wheels in front and pray that everything will clear. They did with the cut coil springs.

good thing you went with those brand and not Mcghaughy's. Their 1/2 ton springs are not good and they sag alot after install. some people were getting a 6 inch drop on springs alone.
