push button start/fuse block problem

Hello everyone
I recently acquired an 84 c10 scottsdale with a blown 305 for a $100. The plan is for my nephew an i to have a project. Anyway we dropped in a 327 and we went to start it. Nothing happened when i turned the key, so i started looking around and found the PO had installed a push button start under the dash. It worked fine once i found it. The problem began when my nephew tried to start it without turning the key to run, it made a popping sound like a fuse blowing. I checked the inline fuse and it was fine so i checked the battery + feed it was plugged into in the fuse block. It is no longer hot, and neither is the one above it. Im not sure why this happened, is there a circuit breaker or something it could have damaged, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Being that this is a hack to begin with, I doubt they took the time to do a proper job installing it. If they did they probably would have just fixed it correctly to begin with. I would suggest completely removing it and repairing the correct starting system for the truck. Put it back to stock and with the correct circuit protection.

I have already fixed the push button,, i would have removed it but my nephew thinks it cool. My main concern is why the fuse block feeds are dead.

Fusible links were good. After about an hour of messing around, i finally found a loose terminal above the battery feeds, had to take the fuse block loose to fix it,, fun fun,, but its all back together and works fine. I've been wrenching on cars for 10 years and never seen that happen, guess you learn something new everyday. Anyway thanks for the advice
