Fuel mileage

I',ve got a 78 K25 4x4 that I'm taking on a long (3000 miles) drive. For better fuel mileage is it worth taking off the front drive shaft? I get about 9.5 miles/ gallon so any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure, I don't have to lock the hubs just use the floor shifter to get 4x4. Does that mean full time 4x4? Thanks

This is just my personal opinion, but if it is full time I wouldn't remove it for that long a drive. The t-case lubes itself basically by the driveshaft turning.
