Transfercase & Transmission questions
« on: July 23, 2006, 09:08:00 pm »
My brother-in-law purchased a 85 silverado and wants to swap the transmission out of it (Turbo 350) into his 73 because his started slipping. I know that his '73 has a NP205, and the 85 has the NP208 - we finished pulling both today. There's a spacer block between the transmission and transfercase - and the shaft/splines part on the transmission looks longer then his (from what I can remember) - This is the third time we're going to be putting another transmission in his truck.

I'm just curious if anyone knows if this transmission out of the 85 and his NP205 will mate, or will he ultimately have to use the NP208?

Thanks for all the help, we'll be changing them over sometime this week (deffiently not the first transmission/transfercase swap.. my 7th time doing it and i'm only 17) For some reason him and my real brother have such a hard time with transmissions going out even when using tranny coolers, and changing the filter/fluid |I

I think he is going to have to use the tranny/tcase setup from the one with the good trans.  I don't think the 205 Trans will bolt to the 208 or vise vera...
