I just replaced my exhaust on my Suburban with the help of a friend yesterday. I replaced the Cat with one from a newer truck with low mile and used the rear tails (3") from an old X-pipe kit we had. Right before we put it all together, we left the muffler off, it (to me) was obnoxious. It sounded good, but I plan to drive this on long trips and it would be WAY too loud. I put a Maganflow muffler on it and it sounds good to me.

In my opinion, you will hate it after you drive it for any amount of time.

Mufflers w/ no cat I could see, but not usually the other way around. My brother had a stock 84 Z28 with a 305 and the exhaust pipe broke right after the cat. It sounded definitely louder and more 'gargly', but it was that old pellet style ultra-restrictive cat and just didn't sound too much like a performance car. It sounded like.....well, like what it was....a lo-po 305 missing 1/2 of it's exhaust.

I don't think you will like it.....It will be loud as heck but sound like ass IMO. At least put a dynomax bullett muffler in there. I have Sweet thunder in mine. They are a straight through design.
