Gas Tank

Couldn't figure out a better place to post this so here we goooo. Anybody know where I can get a single tank for my 73 that will fit between the framerails??? I've seen them for other trucks but can't seem to find one for the ole' 73

BTW i'm new to the forum. My grandpa bought this truck brand new and its been handed down to me and now its time for a restoration so I found this place and decided that it looked lke just the support I needed as I get er' done!!

Do you mean between the driveshaft and framerail or in the rear where the spare goes?  If it's the latter, a blazer/sub tank is what Capt and others are used for this (see writeup posted above).  If you mean between the rail and driveshaft, the will likely need to be custom fabricated or retrofit from a smaller pickup (maybe an S10???), as this area is rather narrow.  I've already measured to see if a factory outboard tank would fit inboard; not even close.

First off welcome from New Hampshaa.
 Why do you want to put yourself through all that work when you could just replace the tank in the factory location. 73 through 87 will fit. The tank brackets will fit as well but need to have the nuts welded in different location as some where along the line they moved them to different frame line up holes. If you are buying new brackets you will need to weld the nuts on as they don't come with them.
 If you say because you don't want to blow up when you are hit you need to do a bit more resarch. That was something the media fabricated for a juicy story.
(1) The chances of you getting hit are very low.
(2) When, & if you get hit your truck will not explode!
(3) If you get hit, if you get hit hard enough to make the tank explode, you are probably not going to live from the impact. So the exploding tank will be a nil point.
(4) They make ABS plastic tanks to replace factory ones.
 I smashed my tank 4 wheeling so bad one time in ruptured the tank on rocks. I drove the truck off the rocks It didn't explode.

I hate having to fill up on both sides and the trucks a gas guzzler with a 6 inch lift, 35's and a 454, so if i only have one tank i can't get too far.

and i was talking about a HUGE tank where the spare goes, hopefully to be used with a fuel filler concealment kit from Legens Hot Rods, since i have a wood bed
