heater core hose
« on: January 10, 2009, 04:27:00 pm »
K went to the wreckers today and noticed a old 83 chevy sitting there.  took the power steering pump outta it.  noticed the heater core hoses were routed differently.  top hose to rad and other hose to engine.   my top is going to waterpump and the other is the same as the 83 truck.  just wondering the pros and cons between the two.  i do have a spot on rad blocked off for the same set-up then just a pipe plug in the waterpump!!  thoughts/suggestions always welcomed  thanks

On my 78 one of mine goes to the radiator and the other goes to a fitting in the front-right of the intake manifold.  My 87 TBI had one hose to the radiator and one to the rear-right of the intake manifold.  Both of my water pumps had a plug in it in the spot you're using.   I don't know the difference, I just put it back like it came.

The hottest area to tap into the cooling system is near the cylinder head before the thermostat. This would be the inlet of the heater core. This is the bottom connection at the core. The return side is going to be on the bypass side of the system so either at the waterpump or in the radiator (automatic transmission) and is at the top of the heater core.
