Rebuild project questions
« on: February 01, 2009, 01:09:25 pm »
I am just starting my teardown and rebuild of my 87 R-30 Dump truck.  The body has been repaired extensively over the years from snow plowing. the frame is in good shape and the engine only has 10k miles on it.  I am wondering if its worth repairing the body or should I look to just replace the cab with a newer used one. The current condition of the body is very worn. any thoughts? :-\ Steve

I came across the same problem. It had the rockers and corners replaced and also had slip on rockers  over the replaced one. I ended up getting another cab. It still needed some work but a heck of a lot less then my old cab. Plus it came with extra parts I was able to use and or sell to keep my project going. Make sure you check all the trouble spots, the tranny hump, and get the best one for the money.

you're not too far from me. I would say if it needs cab corners and rockers, maybe some floor patching keep the cab but if the support structure is gone maybe a new cab would be a better option. Post pix when you can.
