TBI Gasket Question
«
on:
March 02, 2009, 12:50:32 am »
I just got done rebuilding my tbi and the Standard Kit came with 6 or 7 different manifold gaskets. It said to use the same style gasket as the original but I think someone messed with my tbi before. Do you know which style gasket should be used with the stock manifold? Does it matter and if so what are the different applications for all the different gaskets? Thanks.

It depends on the TBI unit and the manifold. The kit ordered comes with everything for like $35 bucks.

The kit I bought was from the company Standard and it came with about 8 different manifold gaskets. The kit I'm sure ,isn't just for one year tbi and the directions of course didn't differentiate between all the different gaskets! If anyone on here has actually rebuilt their tbi themselves what brand kit did you use and how do you know which manifold gasket is for which tbi? Some are open in the middle;some are closed in between the ports;one is super thick ;and most have the same exact bolt pattern!Does it make a difference anyhow?

Are you talking about the gaskets for the manifold to head?

It will depend on the manifold. Match it up to your manifold and the bottom of the unit.

No,I'm talking about the tbi to the manifold gasket. Has anyone used the Standard brand rebuild kit because if you did you would know what I am talking about. I did match it up with the old one but like I said before, I think someone messed with the tbi before me so there is nothing to go by as far as what was originally there! I also wanted to know if there is an advantage to using one of the other gaskets over the others supplied in the kit?

There are subtlle differences. Some have larger holes/smaller holes. Some have the divider opened some don't. You need to compare your manifold and tbi unit. Better yet take pics of your manifold and the bottom of your tbi and I'll tell you which gasket to use.
