putting a 700r4 in

do you have to change or modify anything to put a 700r4 tranny in?....for example my truck has a th400, would i have to modify anything?

You will need several things. A driveshaft the right length & the right yoke, a TV cable bracket at the carb (& a corrector if not using a Q-jet), move the crossmember & possibly a transmission mount, the dash indicator if you want it "right", A lock-up kit of some version to take full advantage of the tranny. This should get you pretty close, Lorne

I had to move the x-member back about 1.5 inches
I had to jack the cab off the frame a little to get the old bolts out
I would imagine the newer truck frames have the holes already drilled for the 700R4
A couple of the holes in the lower frame rail had em but not the upper
An angle drill will come in handy to drill new holes


My truck came with the TH350c
so all the lockup wiring was in place

The cooler lines had to be "adjusted" a bit
I suggest getting a crowsfoot line wrench to get em snug
there's not much room down there
