Dual Tanks Question
« on: April 26, 2009, 09:04:14 am »
I have dual tanks on my 77 crewcab dually.  I was hoping someone might know how to relocate the gas fillers inside the bed, so I can remove from the side of bed and fill in before I paint it.

Also, anyone bypass the switch and just use a T from both tanks.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Where do you want the filler to be? Are you trying to have one filler for both tanks?

I want to put inside the bed someway.

Also if I could have only one filler for both tanks that would be great, too.

I'm pretty sure Lorne (haulinit) put a door in his bed although I think he may be running a fuel cell.

Vile is correct, I'm using a cell with a flip open lid on the top...the door in the bed floor just made good sense in this case.

What exactly are you wanting to accomplish? Just make the bedsides smooth?
What is this truck, 2wd-4x4? Lowered, raised? What do you use it for? Trying to get an idea of what is practical. I'm sure a tube could be run through the bed floor & up the front angle of the wheelwell or even a stand pipe idea up the inner bedside with a 45* tilted inward near the top. My thought is...sooner or later if your reaching over the bedside to fill, someday you will scratch or ding-donk the bedside while filling.
On your T in the Two tank fuel line. I would think that is allot to ask for a regular pump that does not have the aid of being gravity fed, however I've not tried it... so who knows. Give it a try, wouldn't take much to rig it up. Lorne

I don't think the T idea is going to work too well. The reason I say this is because no matter what you do chances are one of them tanks is going to become empty before the other. That's going to cause one side of the T to be sucking air. I know the big rigs do it but they are almost always on flat ground and very rarely run below a half tank. Luckily GM made a special valve and switch for dual tanks. I have also thought about the filler door on the side of my bed too. Here is thought I came up with that for me will be ok. They sell those racing style covers and modifying the bed to use one of those would be pretty easy plus it would look pretty cool too imo. But if you really wanted to have a clean bedside you might be able to utilize one of the stake pockets for a filler.

Nice work Haulin It
