good deal. I just fixed a 5 speed today that the guy couldn't find a used one for under $900 bucks. I fixed it for $36 lol Patience Danielson.

Same thing around here. they wanted 450 for the trans and no guarantee it was any good as the idiot told me "how do we know you aint bring us your bad one" which I responded I know you mark your parts so for 200 (150 for the kit with the syncro's and 50 for the small parts kit) I should have a great transmission lol

I am about in tears (not really but po'd) again
Put the trans together just to see that its good and to see how to line up the shift forks before I go to putting gaskets on
It wont shift its frozen it is taking alot of effort to turn the trans so I go and look at my pics and find I put the rear one (the one with a gear on it) in backwards in the pic its the one on the right. I now have to unassemble the trans plus unpress the rear bearing off I am not looking forward to this not sure how I screwed it up since I assembled it with the pics plus I had every thing on a piece of pipe.

Got it out in less than 30 minutes I am getting to good at this trans

And another 30 minutes to make it right

Lets hope it only take 30 minutes to put it back together

well about a hour and half got it back together and still not shifting took the side cover off 3 and 4 gear selector (part were the linkage fork goes on the mainshaft) slides freely 1 and 2 wont budge (this is the one that had the broken syncro) looking at it seems that the gear needs to come down another 1/2 inch or so but when I had it in the press (20 ton) my 160 lbs on the handle would not move it so I thought it was all the way down. I have quit for the night with some jack and coke and will try and look at it with fresh eyes tomorrow.
Any one have any ideas what I am doing wrong ?

I have lost count how many times I put this thing together put here I am and another wasted weekend on this trans.

I have everything together but once I put the side cover on the linkage wont move not sure why the spring clutches move freely when the side cover is off and the linkage moves free when its not on the trans I am at a complete loss.

Don't look at it as a waste of time. It's a good learning experience for you. Soak everything with penetrating oil.

google MY6 and a833 overhaul. You'll find some tips

After another futile day of putting it together and taking it apart I am at the point of starting from scratch tear down the whole main shaft again. Making sure everything is correct and putting it together one last time. If it still dont work I will look into getting a rebuilt one. Reason is the tranny was locked into 2nd gear when I pulled it and the linkage wouldnt budge. That is when I found the broken syncro and the bad rear case bearing. I am starting to think something might be bent and unrepairable (Ie the main shaft).

Houston think we have a problem.
Took the main shaft apart was checking ever thing and the spring forward clutch (for 1st and 2nd gear #48 in Haynes and Chilton's diagram for the 89mm trans) does not slid freely I must force it, again this is the one with the broken syncro. I took it apart to see if I turned it would it go freely no go on that. Thinking of taking a file to it but there is a ton of keys to go thru a replacement one is 216 dollars. Might just go with a rebuilt one  and put this one back together as the core.

Side note the 3rd and OD one slides on and off with no pressure

Try filing it.

Filed the teeth down (it was only the bottom part that was chewed up) didnt make it perfect it was getting a little sloppy on the top half of travel.
Have it all back together. Is it me just be stupid or does this sound like something is still wrong.
I cant turn the trans by hand and cannot move the shift levers except reverse ?
Drivetrain.com has this trans for 1050 little more than I would like to spend . Would you slap everything back in the truck and give it a go? Before I spend that type of money I would love to be sure lol.

Edit:
Got the trans to move now. Took the old clutch plate put it on the splines then put a pipe wrench on it and whacked it with a BFH it now moves freely time to put the side cover on and see if it will shift.. Not sure what was jammed but its free now no loud noises when it broke free lol

Well it shifted had to move the shaft a little to get it to go 3-4 was smooth 1-2 was a little tight I thought it would wear itself to the other half. Its all moot now started putting the gaskets in got the front done . Took some time to get the side cover on made sure it was squeezing the permatex out since Chris stated this tranny is a known leaker. Starting going in a star type pattern heard a creaking noise look at it , it was still against the case. Was looking around and that is when I saw the case cover is cracked. The one part I have not thrown cracks not sure if its white metal or aluminum . This trans has been a jinx since I started going to snug the bolts up and call for a new one in the morning. See if I can find it cheaper than a grand.

If this trans doesn't work out for oyu why don't you convert to an automatic?

that isn't that bad if it is a quality rebuild.
