New guy, white truck, big stereo
« on: August 27, 2009, 08:30:17 pm »
Hey,

Just making my way over from 67-72chevytrucks.com

I'll be doing a comprehensive write-up on a cut-less stereo system for the 73-87 C10. Many of the parts are coming to us courtesy of Arc Audio and will include component speakers, 6x9's, and the all new XXD5080 5ch amp. Chris is helping by way of a set of kick panel enclosures and another member (bigblock73) is sending out a set of 6x9 cab corner brackets.

Everything on this write-up will be as comprehensive as possible, using off the shelf parts and best of all, no cutting. We'll be explaining different wiring configurations, crossovers, time-alignment, and tuning. All of this will also be done on a budget. Hard to believe right?

I hope to bring this piece to you by the end of September at the very latest. Stay tuned.

Oh yeah, my truck...

Welcome aboard and thank you in advance for the write-up.  Can't wait.  That's a nice clean truck you've got there.

Nice truck, you only have one set of ears so don't ruin them.  I bet you have more $ into that system than I have in both my trucks.  Welcome from NW Indiana.

What's weird about that is that I listen to that thing at insane volumes all the time, but my hearing better than 90% of the people I work with...

I may not have as much as you think, but yes, it's an expensive hobby within a hobby.

With a little luck, and alot of money, this truck won't look this plain-jane for long. Later this year, it's getting a C5/6 front end and tons of other goodies, along with new wheels and tires.

Hi AceX. Welcome, from Middle Tenn. Ditto on your truck! Does it have a tan interior?

Welcome to the site. Your truck looks great with those rims on it. What size are your rims and tires?

AceX, what truck are you doing this on?  If it is non-cut I would assume it isn't yours as it would have a knob stereo, is that what you are going to use?

I have a gentleman in Modesto who is going to be providing me with a truck to use. It's a lifted '87 SWB with charcoal interior. I found out, after committing to him on the project, that his dash has been cut, but that's ok. I'll be able to do everything else without cutting, and will be listing part #'s, pictures, and links to make it truly cut-less.

We're going to start with a Pioneer DEH-880PRS because; 1. I LOVE this deck  2. It has al the EQ, crossover, and T/A funcions that I wanted to incorporate built in  3. It looks good  4. The price was right

Brother's Trucks offers a deck that will work out perfectly for those who do not have a cut dash. It has everything you would want in a modern deck. http://www.brotherstrucks.com/prodinfo.asp?number=CS06300

Next comes the Arc Audio XXD5080 5ch amp. This amp will produce 4x80w for mids/highs and 1x200w on a dedicated sub channel @ 4ohm. That will feed power to a set of Arc Audio KS6006 component speakers, a pair of KS6936 6x9's, and a preloaded Pioneer 12" sub. All wiring is coming from Stinger in the form of a pre configured kit.

Kick panels are coming from Chris himself, and the 6x9 brackets from bigclock73 (Sorry, I never caught your name).

I'm headed to Modesto to go see my friends @ Arc Audio on 9/11 and will be performing the install on 7/12 and 7/13. I should have the write-up done sometime the following week.

I got the 6x9 brackets, Stinger Wiring, Pioneer sub w/ enclosure, and the Pioneer deck all int he last few days. All that remains is the kick panels and the stuff from Arc Audio and we're ready to go.

Before I pack it in for the night, let's give a big hand to Chris, Jeff, and the guys at Arc Audio for helping me out and getting this going! Without their awesome products, I couldn't make this happen!
