fuel gauge/sender issues

ok, here is the deal. I bought my truck about 2 weeks ago.
the owner said the passenger tank didnt work so he only used the drivers tank.. ok so I have been using the drivers side tank only.
well a couple of days ago i noticed the drivers tank had a slow drip leak coming from it, running off the plastic shield under the tank.
So today i take the big shield off the bottom of the tank and i see what looks like a small pin hole leak coming from the very bottom center of the tank.. a slow drip.. note: whoever had this truck took it offroad alot,there was dirt/mud packed all up inbetween the shield and tank... so i take a rag and wipe the dirt and such off the bottom of the tank to see the pinhole better, well.. that made the leak alot more visible because once i did that.. it started pissing gas from that hole. I am guess the mud sitting there rusted the small hole in the tank.

ok, now to the question.  to make a long story short, I followed wires and did some rejoining of the light green and dark green wires where they had been cut (thats why the switch wasnt working) and tested for power down at the fuel selector valve, nothing, so I removed the fuel selector switch and straight wired it (in place of the switch incase it was defective) that worked, now i have power down on whichever of the 2 green wires i pick at the switch connector to straight wire. I turn the truck to KOEO and i can here the valve switch if i remove power or put power to make it switch to the passenger side tank. I guess the drivers side tank it the default mode if there is no power to the valve? so I am guessing it is switched to the passenger side tank now. So i go fill up the pass tank and the gauge is still reading the drivers side tank? Can someone tell me why the fuel level sender wouldnt switch to the passenger side tank if the valve is switching to it? any input would be appreciated. I am getting very frustrated with this truck.

my problem is the fuel gauge is still reading the drivers side tank but i am switched to (and running off of) the passengers side tank.

the post before just gave all the background info on what i have done with the fuel system.

aight well according to the wiring diagram post by vile, and looking at a few other diagrams, It seems to me that the fuel selector valve is switching to the passenger tank (as far as the actual fuel valve goes), but the internal part of it that makes the switch for the fuel level sender must be stuck to the drivers side sender wire, therefore it isnt switching to the passenger side tank fuel sender. and that is why the gauge is still reading the drivers tank.

Capt, can you ad this image to that link also? And you should edit out that last post. The oil pressure switch is a back up circuit not an inhibitor.

hey vile, Thanks for the last picture you posted. looks like that is for the tbi setup? because both sides have fuel pumps. am i correct?  i will need that picture for when i do the 2 pump/sender setup for my tbi switch

Yes that pic is for a dual tank TBI system.
