ball joint changed..now 4x4 won`t engage!!

So the other day I got some new tires put on my 86 chev diesel 4x4 short box, but I need an alignment. when the were getting preped for the alignment they found a bad ball joint. I had them replace it, do the alignment and put new 31x10.5x15 BFG KM2 mud terrains on....looks and drives awesome now! unfortunately the dang 4x4 won`t engage. the drive shaft turns, and with both front tires and one back tire off the ground, I engage 4x4. The front axle turns but the tha dang auto lock hubs don`t wabt to engage...they used to work fine!!! what the heck did they do??? I pulled both hubs out and looked at them, and nothing looks abnormal...i`m at a loss :'(

my manual hub stopped working on my truck for no reason it worked fine in the mud then a couple months later it stopped working. took it apart didn't see anything wrong with it but replaced it and it worked idk I'm stumped

Take the hubs apart again. You overlooked something or just install a new set.

thing is, I know the hubs work fine, they did before they changed the ball joint. there has to be something different be hind the hubs that isn`t right isn`t there? or do they just work off the inside and outside splines, I know they didn`t take the lockers apart, just took them out to get at the rest of the hub to change the ball joint.

 They done something changin that ball joint, If it was mine they be fixin it too.

All you have to do is remove the axle not the differential to xhange the ball joint. Like I said either they are put back together wrong or it's broken. Pull em back apart. Take pix and post em.

I would ditch the auto hubs anyhow...  I can assure you that if you picked up a new set of hubs your 4wd would be working again.

put new manual warn hubs in and have 4x4 again...now I can get to my favorite coyote calling spots again!...got a double header tonight.

lol i was watching this TV show about a coyote hunter he called it in it was about 15 ft from him fired and miss then fired and miss the coyote starts running away i think he fired 3 or 4 shot gun rounds at him then picked up his riffle and fired 2 or 3 more shots needless to say someone was embarrassed
