One more added to the stable
« on: March 24, 2010, 09:45:39 pm »
Well, what started out as just a purchase for a good cab wound up being another truck. Its an 82 K30 cab and chassis. Th400 and 205 (i was told, havent confirmed yet) transfercase. Had a bigblock originally which I had bought from the same guy a while back for $100. I am going to do some measuring this weekend because what i want to do is put my red extended cab on this chassis and put a regular shortbed on it. Hopefully since its a cab and chassis, the extra length on the frame will be just enough so I dont have to lengthen the frame or shorten the bed. Overall, I dont think it was a bad $300 purchase. The cab is perfect, the fenders need replacing but fortunately, Im not short on fenders or doors. I plan on putting the cab on my 79 K20 frame, and turning it into a flatbed to hold a welder and use around the property. Any thoughts on problems I may run into? Also, Ive heard the front axle alone is highly sought after by off roaders, what would the axle be worth by itself, and is the 205 transfercase better than the 208 that I have in the red truck now? Thanks guys

Once upon a time a few years ago when the economy was better the Dana 60's were going for about $1000-$1200 (at least here in Mass). Today I would say that about $750 is the going rate for a SRW (single Rear Wheel) Dana 60.
The 205 transfer case is a gear driven transfer case, and seems to be what all the hardcore 4x4 guys want. I've sold a bunch of Turbo 400/205 combos for $500  that were well used but in good working cond.
Nice clean cabs go fore $1000 around here.
I'm sure these prices vary by location but I think it's safe to say that you made a score.

I was taking some measurements today and noticed that the truck has a Chelsea PTO on it, and also has this little device under the hood. Is this part of the PTO, or something else.
I may luck into another extended cab that was one of the 4x4, 3/4 tons. The bed is long gone, and the frame has been butchered so Im thinking about putting that cab on this chassis and either making it a flatbed, or cut the frame down to make it a longbed. Not sure just yet on whats gonna happen

Maybe just showing my ignorance, but I have no idea what kind of device requires tapping into the master brake lines. It makes me nervous.

Your going to need A bigger pasture.

We have a little over 3 acres, so we have plenty of room, at least for now.
