22"/24" with a 6/7 drop?
« on: March 30, 2010, 10:05:42 pm »
81 C10 short bed. Lookin for pics or advice from anyone who has seen or put these combo wheels on my current setup. Ive seen it many times on bagged trucks im just having trouble finding this setup on a truck with a static drop. Will I have to narrow the axle? Also as far as back spacing goes, the front is lowered on 2.5 spindles and the front wheels seem to sit wider than the back. Is this a normal chevy thing or is it the spindles causing the difference in width? Thanks for lookin!

I can't comment on your wheel size selection, but I can say that yes, the rear wheel track is two inches narrower in the rear.  I took measurements prior to ordering my wheels to be sure.  I've read in a lot of different forums that  spindles push the front track out 1/2 inch on each side.  I believe it's got something to do with the inner-rim clearance.

It can be done, you need to be around 5.5 backspacing in front and you are going to be limited on your tire size.  The best option is getting a wheel the size you want mounted on the truck and measure once you get it lowered like you want it.  6/7 is going to be an experience stactic'd and you will have to build inner liners for it.

Thanks for the info guys! What do you mean a 6/7 is going to be an experience? You mean as far as ride goes? I already have it that low with stockers and the ride really isnt that bad belive it or not. It will get worse im sure with the bigger wheels and thinner tires im sure. If its that bad I guess ill go air!

Got any pictures of it now?
With a 6/7 drop on huge rims, you ride quality is going to be diminished, this is true of even 15's from my experience.  In addition to the 2.5" spindles how did you get the additional 3.5" of drop in the front?  Are you flipped in the rear?

It rides pretty good actually! Im pretty surprised. Ill put pictures up tonight and yes the rear is flipped and notched. If the notch was any bigger there would have to be a hole in the bed. The front is just spindles and springs.

Looks like a 3/5 to me. If it is a 6/7, you couldn't have been stock height before the drop.

Not a 6/7 drop.  6/7 drop would required cut springs and spindles and it would ride like crap, and the control arm would be skimming the road.  If the roads were bad you wouldn't be driving it and be happy.

You MIGHT be able to run a 265/35 22 tire up front, if you roll your fenders and cut out some of your fenderwells.
Honestly though, you'll probably be better off with a 20/22 combo. With around a 245/40 20 up front and a 265/35 22 out back. Maybe another inch of drop in the rear to keep it level too.

Looks pretty close to mine, and I'm sitting around a 5/8.
I'll be going down another inch or so pretty soon though, as soon as I cut out the tops of my front fenderwells.
I have a good four inches between my control arms and the ground, so you should be fine.

Yes, our drops are very similar! Almost identical! One more inch wouldnt be draggin my control arms constantly either. Im obviously around a 5 up front and I really have to drive like a mad man to get them to hit. Like going way to fast through a dip haha. By the way thanks for the helpful info!
