Stepside Fender
« on: April 13, 2010, 02:53:01 am »
I've had this dent in the driver side fender for quite some time. It was a nice present to come home to from Iraq. A new fender is about 240 plus over 100 for shipping. The problem that I have is the truck has dual tanks and I can not find a fender with the fuel door. I refuse to have the round hole/gas cap exposed.

Should I have it repaired or try to find a suitable replacement at the junk yard? I dont have the tools or garage space or skills to repair it myself.

That looks repairable, but the labor to do so would probably be more than a replacement.
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

Would it be hard for me to get it close, having no body repair skills?

I mean you can pound it out but its going to take some body work to get it right. What you can do is take it off, hammer it out with a small sledge hammer and a block of wood and then take it to a body shop to have them do the bodywork, prime it and paint it .

thanks

As someone who's been working on a stepside you're going to have a hard time looking for anything used thats decent especially in a junkyard. I would buy a new one and cut out the filler area from your old fender and have someone weld in for you on the new one. Just my 2 pennies. BTW welcome back from Iraq.

Thanks everyone for your help. I'll figure out eventually which way i want to go. The jail at the next county does body work to teach the inmates, maybe I'll check them out and even a school auto shop.

Thanks for the welcome home, been back since late 08. Its just driving me crazy with it. Its the only body flaw. The thing that upsets me, is I have no idea how it happened.
