AWESOME JUNKYARD FIND! - and an interior question...
« on: April 23, 2010, 08:17:30 am »
Found this *almost* cherry dash panel in an 86 K10 that I think someone was just starting to restore before it had a confrontation with what looks like a guiderail  ???  Anyway, the pics show 2 areas of damage.  Something was drilled just to the right of the cluster area. and a piece of material is missing from the right side bottom corner.  This isn't perfect, but Much better than the one I am going to take out (in pieces)...

My question is... Has anyone ever tried that rustoleum "hammered finish" spray paint?  I was thinking about using it on the bottom of the dash and the back of the cab, something that obviously goes with this color dash panel.  The truck is red, as is the interior but I think this much red is tacky.  This dash pad is dark blue, so I was thinking something like a  darker slate gray or charcoal?  Any thoughts?

Hammered paint looks cool in the right spots. On the interior metal, not a fan. I would just do a color change.

That dash pad can be reapired.

Depending on the finish you want, you might look at the krylon fusion textured shimmer paint. I like the hammered paint, but Vile's right, on interior metal in that quantity it wouldn't be that appealing.

Well I just scrapped what was left of my old 84 Silverado, which I kept ALL of the blue interior plastic trim from. Now I am considering painting the exposed metal in my 86 the same color, but don't know what color blue it was... :-/ It was a lighter blue than the trim... anyone have any insight on this???
