headers and complete exhaust
« on: May 25, 2010, 02:13:40 pm »
my stock exhaust has completely fallen out.  i might as well do everything including the headers.  i have an 85 k10 lwb with a 350.  it was originally a 305, but the 350 looks stock from around the same period.  is there any specific differences in motors that i need to look at before i get headers or are they all about the same.  how can i tell exactly which 350 i have?  also does anyone recommend any complete exhaust systems, headers and where to order from.  i'm looking for a pretty free flowing exhaust, without the cross type after the cat.  i'm thinking about putting a cat and dual  mufflers, but i do not have emission testing in florida tho.

i dont know of a full system to get, but getting you own headers and cats from summit or jegs, then hitting a local shop would work well. Also chris sells a nice system on here that i would of gotten if i didnt get new exhaust as a xmas gift.

I'm been thinking real hard about that setup for a couple of years now....   I'll very likely get that one when I get my headers.

I'll give you a little free advice. When you buy your headers, spend the extra dough and get a set of ceramic coated headers. You can get an exhaust system installed at a shop for around the same price as the kits I've looked at.

x2 about the headers and you can have a "too" free setup that you will notice a loss in power. what ever you get i would go with some sort of cross over to help it all run better

If its the same price between a shop and kit, get the kit. Shops dont usually mandrel bend the pipes.

I have Hooker Super Comps Headers, and Flowmasters on my 1984 C-10, like them both with good sound, turn downs in front of rear axle housing. I had a local speed shop repair shop install the exhaust system from the collectors of the headers. They bent and welded all the connections. I then took the truck home and removed the piping and painted the piping with Hi-Temp POR-15 Silver paint, excellant product.

Capts kit is a stainless X-pipe kit tho...   I seriously doubt a shop will construct all that and use Stainless for that price.   Around here it's like $500 starting price for plain true duals, 2.25" pipe, stainless.
