that ugly visor
« on: July 02, 2010, 10:55:59 am »
Yup my p.o. put one hideous visor on and when he did he used 5 huge bolts! He bolted it strait onto the cab roof and on the LH and RH side just before the doors! Everything is bent where he bolted it down! Come to find out that was my problem with the leaking windshield. Looks like he used some kind of silicone sealer instead of replacing the old rubber. So whenever it rains or i wash it water leaks to the inside of the windshield. Now the headliner is in perfect condition and where it meets the windshield it looks fine. Looking through the bolt holes I cant really tell if its rusted or not but its probly started to. Also the trim around the door on the cab he took them off and just put the screws back in and some aren't even on there! What's my best bet on fixing the cab? Should i find a donor or is it possible to weld them up? They arent right on top of the windshield channel so is that a possibility? Oh yeah and just fyi I picked my user name cause it was a gmc tailgate and and steering wheel but chevy grille, moldings, and cab corners! Then to find out its just all gmc probly owned by Edward Scissorhands cause from the inside out its been hacked to bits!!!

ugly visor? if it was the lund ones they aint ugly they look great, we got one on an 84.

You should have put silicone on the bolts like rtv before you put them back in, that'd seal them up, they can be welded shut or maybe you can grind the heads off then put some fiberglass filler over the holes.

I LOATHE visors and I would like to smack the man that invented them. You aren't the only one with a previously owned truck by an owner that got excited every time the new JCWhitney catalog came out. The hacked up bolt holes in your roof can be fixed but you will have to repaint the roof after your body work is done.

And don't forget these little gems from the 80's, when cool factor was directly proportionate to the amount of products you could afford with the LUND logo on it.

lol, that would look so PHAT with a tailgate spoiler and ground effects! Some over the rail diamond plate, some lit up cab handles, some cab length running boards and a FEAR ME sticker in the back window. OH the babes I would get!

LOL. You feel about visors how I feel about running boards. Not proud to say it, but at one time my 82 had aluminum running boards with 4' blue strip lights on them.

Yup my p.o. put one hideous visor on and when he did he used 5 huge bolts!

How big of holes are you talking about?

you guys can be like everyone else and talk smack if you want, but I love em and put em on everything and everyone around here wants them too. I got a lighted moonvisor on my 88 and dad has the unlighted on his 84, he has stick on scoops, tube grille, I have a billet one, I'd have the razorback posted above, or a roll bar anyday. Hate on em if you want but we love em and put em on everything.

Here's one for all you hataz.....

If you have access to a welder than you should weld up those holes. Grind them somewhat smooth but not too thin, then take a body hammer and drift the high spots in so you can use a thin coat of bondo. MAKE SURE to cover your glass when you weld, and like Vile said, you will need to re-paint the roof.

Swims350, don't worry nobody is petitioning to ban visors. To each their own. Some like lifted, some like lowered, etc. I personally don't care for a vehicle with a bunch of go-fast looking non-functioning plastic parts is all. That white shortbox is pretty sweet though.

yea maybe on a PINK truck it aint so good but IMo front roll pans are ugly, very much so.

The billet, looks great, the wheels love em.

I think they already petitioned them out lol they are very hard to find now.

As for the white short box, that's my old mans truck. A visor is the first thing he buys other then wheels, and doing a nice shiney paintjob. Are for plastic parts, ahh the scoops are the rest is fiberglass. I get your point though. Some things I hate, some I like. Ground effects and flares, yea, running boards I hate, cab fairings/razorbacks, like em for sure, roll bars and such, body kits, ahh some, not most. To each his own for sure.

OK Vile I think that truck would have benefited from removing the oversize mirrors before the visor. I don't lust after them, but I do like the moon visor. Thats being said there are some trucks that would look better without on. As for the cab backs, running boards, and all the rest of the crap. They are just that, and look like crap too!
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs
