Gotta Hitch Problem
« on: July 09, 2010, 06:41:16 pm »
Hey.  I have a 84 GMC k1500 4x4 short bed.  Today I bought a new boat and I bought a used frame mount hitch that I had planned to install.  It came off a 87 full size blazer.  Well the leaf spring mounts are in the way of the front part of the hitch so I can't bolt it to the frame.  I didn't look to see if the blazer had coils or not but I guess it did.  Anyway, I need a hitch something awful.  My brand new boat is still sitting at the dealership and I can't even pull it home.  Anyone know a source of a hitch that will fit this truck?

Listing where you're located might help you on a fast hunt.  Heck, if close i would be glad to pick the boat up for ya  ;D  It's HOT out.

Keep and eye out of Craigslist and there's usually several.  Just watch again what style you have and if it matches your bumper/bracket style.  I got my hitch off a diamond plate type bumper truck, and my truck has the chrome style with different bumper brackets.  I made it work, but had to do a little trimming.  Some mount on bottom, some inside the frame.

Good luck on getting out in the water and congrats on the boat.

Call your local hitch or U Haul dealer. I would stay away from a used hitch. You never know what it has been through. Spend the extra money on a new hitch.

Like Beastie said, call Uhaul. A new hitch is about $150.

A) Why not get a hitch for the Mercedes?
B) You really need to put in your location, some of us may want to help you test that new boat on the fish.

I agree U-haul or an Auto parts store or tractor supply.

Even Wally world sells a universal class III that should do the trick.

I took the advice and called U-Haul.  They ordered my hitch today, $185 installed.  I'm in Chesapeake Virginia.  My MB is hardly something I'd be pulling a trailer with.  I've attached some pics I took while we were buying the boat.  I'm looking forward to seeing how my old GMC pulls it.
