Truck pulls.
« on: August 14, 2010, 02:36:18 am »
We took a two and a half hour ride tonight to the Topsham Fair in Topsham Maine. Went to see the truck pulls. A whole bunch of run what ya brung. 4 pro trucks. An 86 ish Chevy called Redneck Cadillac, small block, with SM 465. A 72 Chevy called Dirty Hooker, big block, SM465. A 68 GMC called Black Gold, small block, with an SM 465. A 68 Ford, some sort of big block, and a standard trans. I didn't get a close look at it.
All the other trucks were run what ya brung. The sled was not self powered so it had to be dragged back with a tractor. No scales so the classes didn't go by weight. Classes were 1/2, 3/4, 1 ton, and diesel. 81 Suburban took first place in the 1/2 ton devision, 2010 pick up took second with a woman driving.
The winner of every class was allowed to move up to the next class. The 1/2 ton Suburban took second place in the 3/4 ton class!
Was a good time for the most part. We were expecting a more organized event.

Went  to the truck and tractor pulls at our local fair last Tuesday.  Tractors had one lane with the trucks in the other.  Truck line up consisted of 1 Dodge, 3 Fords, and the majority were CHEVY'S.  There were no 73-87's there.  A few older 60's models, but the rest were S-10's that were stretched.  Needless to say, but a Chevy won!!!!
I was amazed at the amount of drivers that were women on both tractors and the trucks.  I don't want anybody to take this the wrong way, but I was shocked.  I came home and told my wife this.  I can hear the guy's saying it now, "Honey, if you want to win, you need more HP, and a trip to JEGS will solve that"....  ;D ;D ;D  Why didn't I think of that ??? ??? ???

Didn't get any of them pulling, the sun was right in our face. Then it was to dark by the time the real trucks got up to the line. Took a few of two of them in the parking lot.

This one sounded good until he got it wound up, then it broke down a little.

This truck took first, was built really nice, and he had it running right on the money.

Nice, I haven't been to the Topsham fair in a couple of years, though I have been to Pittston and Windsor fairs for their pulls.
I do remember, a couple of years ago,  a truck with paper plates won the stock class...

Little to far away to go now.

Its almost a three hour ride from my house! We thought about going to Skowhegan Fair this coming weekend. One of my ex girlfriends grew up there, and her brother runs the local motor lodge / motel. So we could probably get a discount rate for an over night. But then again maybe not because he and I don't really care for each other!!!
If we go I will have her call and make the reservations!  ;D
