painting options....
« on: August 26, 2010, 12:17:13 am »
I am about to send my 79 4x4 short bed in for a new paint job.  I am having it paintedthroughout the inside cab as well as in around the engine.  I have choosen to paint it blue but can't make up my mind which blue.  As well as what color I will be painting the plastics moldings/ door panels / dash.  Are there any colors that anyone can recommend?   anything will help.   What about blue paint with all black interior or tan door moldings or all blue?   Help is needed.

I sent with blue and an all black interior with charcoal colored seats and I love it! I got the blue from O'Reillys. It's an early 90's GM called Medium Dark Metallic blue and it's out of their catalog. I have the code written down but not with me right now. Below are some pics to give you an idea of what the combo looks like.

I get compliments almost everywhere I go with this combo.

Old77, that interior (and the whole truck) looks great. Two other colors that I really like are the subaru blue that Vile used on one of his trucks, and dunedigger's truck. You can't really go wrong with charcoal interior.

Actually, all I just painted was the dash (and the back wall) and moldings. The dash pad and door panels came in black so I just keep them protected and cleaned up with Armor All. Before the interior was redone it was a baby blue that just was not my taste!! :)

On the last several trucks I've done, I have painted the metal areas with low-gloss paint in a similar color to the plastic trim color. I have never liked the Black with Red trim, White with Blue trim, Yellow with Tan trim, ect. ect. Some colors aren't quite so bad...the Blue with Blue, the muck Green with equally ugly Green interior, Brown with Tan ect.
To each his own...if you want to sit in a "bruise" so be it  ;)
Here's one of mine. The seat is faded a bit, but the camera made it come out really different for some reason ???
