Copper Thieves
« on: September 24, 2010, 11:23:44 pm »
This happened today by my house.

http://www.wsbtv.com/news/25149080/detail.html

What they left out was that the thieves were in broad daylight right by the road disguised as a power company crew.  I saw em and never gave em a second thought.  Screwed the banks all up, I got $20 bucks out since my debit card wouldnt work around there and the bank had to write me a hand written reciept and the money I got out into a log book, hand written.

I'd have never thought of it, pretty ballsy.

common suckers.

I noticed that is Gwinnett County--the county that stole the AAA Richmond Braves (Atlanta affiliate) from Richmond last year after 44 years of them being in Richmond). Actually, the leaders of Richmond can't get their stuff together to make Richmond attractive for the Braves to stay. oh well.  Bobby Cox got his 2500th victory today as manager against the Washington Nats, i was in D.C. today and listened to the game. But that's another story.
Did I read another headline correctly from that news article you posted.....Suicidal death row inmate granted execution delay.  What?!?  They can't execute a depressed inmate?  He must heal before they kill him?  what gives?  Only in America.

Only in America.

Sorry mate > it's here too!

A couple of years back scum bags nicked all the drain/manhole covers as the price of cast iron went through the roof. The council (local authority) had to replace the frames as the old ones were imperial and the new ones were metric!

They'll steal anything.  A while back in Atlanta 2 theives tried stealing the big buss bars from a big power junction box in Atlanta and BOOM they both turned into crispy critters...  dead ones. ;)

Even had a fellow put an extension ladder up on the high voltage wires (like you see everywhere over the streets) and start cutting them with a hacksaw.  He didnt survive either.   ???

Some of em want it pretty bad.... :P

We've had a number of electrocutions happen from wire thieves. Not too bright, that's for sure. We also had a theatre which had shut down and was sitting vacant. It was I think a 4-plex, decent sized place, built in the '70s I'd say. Thieves broke in and stole all of the copper water piping, and cut the pipe UPSTREAM of the main shut-off valve. Flooded the place so bad they had to tear it down. Lame  ::)

Making a truck look like a county vehicle though, that's bold. Most of the thieves around here just seem to ride bicycles. The more reputable scrap places won't even take walk-in customers anymore due to this kind of thing. Other oddities like phone booths and even gravestone markers have shown up at scrap yards.
