Why $25 to post up parts for sale?
« on: September 30, 2010, 06:09:37 pm »
I dont know but this seem a little steep.  So many other sites dont ask for this.  I dont mind donating $10 bucks to help out the site but $25?  Can a mod post up and shed some light on this to help me understand the reason behind this??

Thx

Site is run out of Chris's pocket. Money goes toward keeping it up. Pretty much it in a nut shell.

$2 a month for all this helpful info, camaraderie of fellow truck owners, searching others' sale postings, and posting whatever you have for sale.  I say it is a bargain--been a supporter for years and never posted anything for sale.

Craigslist is free and many other websites have fees much higher to have full access. $25 a year isn't a lot of money to become a site supporter of this great forum. Another good reason is it got rid of a lot of trolls that came on here just for the sole purpose of trying to make a buck. Most members on this forum are active and interactive making this the #1 73-87 website to be on. If you've gotten any help on this website at all it's probably worth more than $25 a year so I think the price is quite reasonable. If you walked into my shop and wanted me to troubleshoot something for you it would cost you $90/hour for diagnosis. On here I offer up my knowledge and help for free as do many other members. I think if you asked the majority of the members here they would say it was money well spent.

X4 here, Vile has helped me on several non 73-87 problems different makes and models.  I feel guilty as to not have renewed my site supporter status.  I will for sure soon.

So many other sites have members that would rather call you an idiot and argue with you than help you solve a problem. People here help each other, and if you want to make a buck by selling stuff on the site, it's a small price to pay to compensate the person that provides this medium for us. My check is in the mail.

Just paid a moment ago.  Not because I need to sell parts, but because this site has saved my butt over and over!

Im with sgt I haven’t sold anything on here yet and I needed some help now and then and I offer what info I can give. 2 bucks a month is like buying a friend (Chris) a cup of coffee a month for putting up with me lol. iv been on other forms were if you ask a simple question and someone has all ready asked it a month ago before you became a member, they would tear into you. Here you don’t have that problem

Ya, I don't look at it as money spent to sell parts, it's more like helping a site that gives tons of information and pleasure.  It's impossible to say how many ideas I've gotten looking at others build photos.

I can tell you that the main reason it is $25 for a whole year is because it removes all the trolls that Vile mentioned that were jumping on the forum and posting their stuff and didn't answer emails, or post numbers, or were even remotely interested in anything but dumping specific parts on a captured audience.  There is a HUGE post on the forum about when this was discussed.

Many non contributing trolls left once it was put in place and all their posts disappeared which were ALL in the classified section.

The information received as Vile stated is free which would normally cost you that in just a 10 minute conversation.  The only thing I charge for is selling parts, and you are pretty much guaranteed to find someone that will want the 73-87 parts since it is a forum for those.

The second reason is it keeps the website free and helps support it.  ALL the money from the site pays for the site.
I do have a real day job BTW.
