Jim, there's idiots everywhere. Nobody forgot how to drive, they didn't know how to in the first place. The total was around 100 cars piled up at noon yesterday, and by 8:30 last night they finally got everyone out.

Nothing like Ohio weather,  40+ inches of snow and temps in the upper teens the first half of Dec,  now its 55 degrees and supposed to be warm and sunny till next year.  Gotta love it.

That just gets my goat!

The headline "Snowstorm causes 100-car pileup near Fargo, N.D."

" ....Icy Roads being blamed for it? "

NO!  A storm doesn't CAUSE a pileup.   And, ICY ROADS aren't the blame for it either!!!

In today's wussified world, no person can be held accountable for their actions.  IF YOU CAN'T SEE THE CAR AHEAD OF YOU, PERHAPS YOU SHOULD SLOW DOWN!!

By the same reasoning of the media, EVERYONE should've wrecked who were out in the snow, but, that didn't happen.  WHY?  Because the snow doesn't cause wrecks, people who can't drive do!

There were plenty who were driving in that stuff that didn't wreck.

I agree with Sgt.

People now are used to having the roads clean, I can remember when our small New England town used to clean the roads up after the storm unless it was a big storm then they might plow during it too. Everybody had big rear wheel drive cars with good snow tires (and of course trucks). If you had to go out, you drove civil, there wasn't any tailgating and not many wrecks either. Nowadays we see front wheel drive cars with all-season tires and the drivers get angry if they can't go just over the speed limit and expect the municipalities to spend whatever it cost to keep the roads clean just in case they need to go to walmart.
Oh and these are the same people that only clear their car off enough to see straight ahead.

Like I said, I managed to get around just fine. What really makes me shake my head is that people were freaking out because responders couldn't get there fast enough, people were running out of gas, getting hungry, etc. I won't turn this into the story of the ant and the grasshopper, but I ALWAYS keep both tanks topped off when a storm is on the way, I carry a shovel, ATV ramps to put down for traction, recovery gear, my Carhartt gear, goggles, handwarmers, snacks, and a few bottles of water, plus most of my camping gear that I never bothered to take out of the toolbox from the summer time.

If you're not capable of operating a motor vehicle in these conditions, and disregard simple safety measures such as having a winter survival kit, stay home. You're putting first responders in harm's way to save you from your stupidity.

My father in-law has a little Chevy aveo and he was doing better in the snow last year than people with awd or 4x4. This year he said it’s not the car but points to his head and he’s right. That’s one thing about my truck I can have fun out in the snow but if I screw up I can get my self out of it. Made my winch remote cordless now so that helps lol. I hit one small drift that pushed me into a bigger drift that was about 4' high and if I didn’t have the tires or 4x4 than I would have been screwed. Like we said before the 4x4 helps with traction on take off but doesn’t do much when it comes to stopping and that’s where most screw up

Yep. They done turned off the lights and rolled up the sidewalks.   They had on news earlier people making a run on the stores.  all the milk, bread, water and salt is gone.  Why do they always do that?  If you're gonna be stranded, who the heck wants to eat milk and bread the whole time?

They had one guy on there with a shopping cart just overloaded with the big ol bags of salt.  I wanna know what he's gonna do with it all?  is he gonna salt a path from his house to his work?   :D
