How did you guys mount your radio?

ive come across a problem now that ive taken some time to fix up my interior a bit more, and its come to specifically my radio.

When i first installed the DIN radio i took the time, cut everything slowly and carefully, and lined it up, but i didnt know how to get the radio to lock into place. See, when the metal retaining collar is secured to the dash metal, the plastic gauge bezel is too thick for the radio to go far enough in to lock into the retainer, but when i secured it to the bezel, the angles are too far apart to get it into the dash hole, and i was worried about it cracking the bezel.

so did you guys,

1) mount it to the dash metal, and push the reciever as far back as it would go and leave it there
2) mount it somehow to the plastic and get it to lock into place
3) some secret way i havent thought of yet?

im going to have to cut the trim ring at the left edge and right bottom corner for it to fit into the area around the hole, its too wide to get past the bezel edges, but i guess when i do that it would hold the radio enough to stop it from sliding back when i open the faceplate and such, because as it stands, when i close it i push it into the dash and its very annoying.

if anyone has pics or specifics they can share id love to hear it.

When I bought my truck the stock radio mount was pretty hacked so I made my own.

1. I made the openings in the metal dash and plastic bezel.
2. I installed the bezel onto the dash as normal.
3. I installed the metal retaining ring through the plasic and metal dash and locked it in place by bending the tabs.
the only disadvantage is; if you need to remove the bezel you will first have to remove your radio.

for my trim ring I sanded it vs cutting it.

ah ok, so locking it into both so it locks in and is secure, i guess removing the radio is a small price to pay to get it to work and look the best. thanks.

and good job on the custom mount bezel too, that looks great also.

I hate it when people cut the dash.....mount it under the dash or in the glove box. thankfully my 73 still has the stock am radio and I don't even bother to listen to the radio while driving anyway, I have to pay attention to my surroundings while driving.
