what hood scoop size?
« on: March 03, 2011, 01:38:15 am »
I have an extra hood that I plan on making into a custom hood. I'm going to buy just a weld on scoop and work from there. Plan is to make it look like the domination cowl hood but a split single scoop ram air style. I hate that we can only have a cowl hood or the domination cowl hood style so I'm just going to make one.

I need help with which size I should purchase though

both are 2.5" tall

one is 33.75" wide and 55.50" long

next ones smaller 33" wide and 49.50 long

No pictures of them so cant really tell which is the best fit, and I have both my hoods put up in the overhead storage in my garage! Let the neighbor borrow the ladder so can't get up there to measure it. Thanks

Is it a forward open scoop or a rear facing cowl?

Its a normal cowl hood with billet trim along the top body lines. Comes in a dual cowl style also.

I just don't want it to come up short and have a big gap from the end of the scoop to the end of the hood. I'm just gonna guess its the longer one and keep my fingers crossed.

how did you make out with your hood scoop? i'm looking to do the same thing. i don't want to spend $400 on a cowl hood, so i plan on buying a scoop and welding it on. if yours worked i'd like to know where you got it from. thanks

I'm still working on the hood. Some fabbing here and there. If you do a google search of the APM style hood, its going to be a cross of the dodge ram cowl style and the Chevy split ram air. My nephew got a new hood for his IROC and I'm debating on tearing into my good hood to make another with his hood scoops?

You could easily get any steel cowl hood scoop and fit it to your hood. Find out how you want the fit, mark it, cut it, weld it, and do the body work from there. Send a PM to the Capt and see if he can get any of the goodmark steel hood scoops. Thats for the traditional look. I just had an extra hood and decided to have a go at it for my taste.
