not sure about the trans but what do you see in the gear selector window (how many gears)

I know it had an automatic but as far as the gear selector it is not there. Dash and steering column was removed from the truck when I bought it

Since it had a 305 I bet it came with a th350? Maybe you could measure the length if the drivelin ed and people in the forum can measure theirs and say which transmission they have and you could find out that way?

I'd be very surprised if you could get a 305 with anything but a 700R4 in a c10 in '83.  My '83 Silverado originally had a 305/700R4.

I didnt even think of the 700r4. As a matter of fact my friend has an 84 That originally had a 305/700r4. Now has a crate 350 and same trans. Once again, Maybe a drive line measurement can decide for sure?

Presence of a low vacuum switch on the firewall and the wiring for the convertor lockup would point towards it being a 700r4.

The presence of the vacuum switch is not really indicative of anything. My 1984 sierra classic originally came with a th350c and had the switch.

My 85 has a 305/TH350C combo

my 80 has A 350/th350 in it. I would just put a 700r4 in it so you can have overdrive in it.

So if my 84 swb  has a d and d in a circle. Does that mean it came with a 700 from the factory. Should it be 59 inches from the seal to rear end

That indicates a 700R4 with the gear selector you describe.  Don't know the overall length but a TH350C is the same length.
